Pengelly’s Event Hire offers affordable wedding, festival, party and event hire stock throughout Cornwall and South Devon.
Our hire stock is older and more weathered than equipment hired out by the premier hire companies and, although perfectly usable and practical, may show signs of use. If you’re looking for items for a shabby-chic, bespoke event then we’re your first choice. If you seeking pristine, first class marquees etc, then we suggest you seek out a premium supplier.
Our prices are do not include delivery or collection, although we can offer that service.
We are based in Porthleven so, as a rough guide, delivery as far as Truro is £100 each way, Truro and beyond £150 each way.
With all our equipment hire, you will be expected to put it in place. With marquees, we will help you to erect but you will need to take down yourself. We can help you take down the marquee and pack it away properly. The cost for this help is £150. With the larger hires, we will provide extra labour to load / unload the van and help erect / take down. The cost for this help is around £200, depending how how much kit there is.
We can provide labour to help set events up, but this will be at an hourly rate.

We have a variety of flooring options for your event. If you’re having a standing-only event, then you may not need flooring.
However, a ‘hard’ area for a dancefloor is often a good idea as a lot of dancing can make an area become slippery and damage the grass.
Also, the feet of chairs can sink into soft ground.
Below are our flooring options. We have extensive matting flooring, but limited hardwood fllooring.
Having a band or DJ that need to elevated? We’ve got several staging options as well.
We’ve got a selection of wooden hard flooring that slots together. This can be covered with a parquet-style lino that we have (or can be left exposed). It’s simple, but it makes a good dancefloor. We’ve got quite a lot of it. The price varies with the size of marquee / amount of flooring required.
Fancy showing the proper moves to Night Fever? Well, this is a proper quality, great condition oak parquet sprung dancefloor. 18ft by 18ft and will make any father-of-the-bride move like Errol Brown (the lead singer of Hot Chocolate and cousin to James Brown).
This is proper heavy duty, well-made staging that we picked up from a mate, who got it from a school (and legitimately, we must add). There are two x 60cm x 120cm half sections (pictured) and 10 x 120cm x 120cm sections (and around 40cm high). It doesn’t fold down and is almost a van load by itself.
We have around 1,000 chairs. The wooden chairs are nicer, but the Samsonite chairs are perfectly functional. We have covers for the wooden chairs, a summer design and a autumn design.
We have rectangular and round trestle tables, and also some heavy duty rustic tables that are good for head tables etc.
On a budget? These Samsonite chairs are basic, seen everywhere and comfy enough. We have 109 red chairs and 160 light grey chairs (16 are a bit darker).
These fold-up chairs for those going for a white wedding look and have padded seats. We have 250 of these.

Our top chair and most popular. Retro Chiavari-style chair with ivory padded seat. For an extra £1, you can have an ivory sash to go on the back. We have 200 of these chairs.

We have 114 benches: 60 at 6ft 6in (a perfect fit for our 6ft 6in trestle tables) and 54 at 2m (apologies for the imperial / metric mash-up).
These are super study, retro, rustic wooden benches that seat four people. These go great with the traditional 8ft tables we have.

We’ve got a dozen of these really nice, heavy duty trestle tables with separate trestle legs. Size 6ft by 2ft 6in – will seat 6 to 8 people (although 8 is a squeeze). We also have a 3ft by 2ft 6in table in the A frame style which makes and idea rustic cake table.
What difference does 6 inches make, you might think? Well, these tables are super-rare in the event hire world. Unlike the standard 6ft x 2ft 6in tables, these tables give a lot more space for dining and table decorations. It took us a while to get a set of these in, and we have 30 of them.
Seating up to 12 people, these tables and benches are a great solution to communal seating and work well near bars / food stalls (and actually increase sales). Seven foot long and 18 inches wide. 17 sets in stock, most of them new this year.

Large beer barrels that make ideal standing tables to put your pints on. We have a dozen of these but may get some more.

Classic garden hardwood table with five chair set, tailor-made for sedate Pimms sessions. We’ve got parasols for these tables as well, for those who have forgotten their Panama hats. We’ve just bought these, so don’t have pictures of them together – but you get the idea.
This banqueting table has three configurations:
• a 6.2m by 1.2m four-section table (price: £65)
• a 4.4m by 1.2m three-section table (price: £52)
• a 2.4m by 1.2m two-section table (price: £32)
We have these beautiful ivory parasols with cast iron bases that can be used in conjuction with our hardwood table and chair sets, or on their own. We have eight of these.
Price: £40 each

Quite hard to get small bales these days, but being former farmers – we have contacts. Hay bales are great for sitting on and add a real country feel to any outdoor event.

Lots of lighting, much of it suitable for outdoors and indoors and much of it connectable in that you can have very long sections.
There’s also a wide range of disco lighting, all sound-activated. While not quite a Pink Floyd spectacle, it’ll add an atmosphere.
Please be advised that we don’t install lighting, we’ll leave it with you to position as you please.
We used to be DJs at Pengelly’s Event Hire, so we simply kept all the gear and upgraded parts of it.
We’ve got a three PAs that come with set-up instructions and other stuff that’s going for getting a crowd grooving.
Got big plans that call for big sound? The JBL PartyBox 520 knows how to set the mood with a vibey lightshow and our biggest, boldest, thumping sound yet, powered by the all new AI Sound Boost tech to help get everyone moving and shaking. Our sound might be heavy but this speaker is easy to move, whether we’re setting up in the backyard, by the pool, or that place where our friend just dropped a pin. Every move is smooth with the PartyBox 520’s grippy handle and wide wheels that are ready to roll when you are. With up to 15 hours of playtime, you can host multiple parties before it’s time for a recharge. And don’t worry about any splashes or spills, this speaker is designed to withstand the most raucous parties – fouls and all. What’s better than one JBL PartyBox 520?
OK, we lifted the above from the JBL website but this is a thumping Bluetooth speaker that connects wirelessly, USB-C, two mic inputs – you can even plug a guitar into it. Gimmicky flashing lights as well. Google it, it’s a good bit of kit.
This machine creates a fantastic ‘dry ice’ effect of low lying fog across the dance floor – much better than a smoke machine.
We’ve amassed quite a selection of decor, from drapes to bunting and flags. If there’s something you want, and it’s not here – just ask.
We might be able to pick something up. We’re friends with Shiver Me Timbers and Perfect Party Cornwall, and they’ve got loads of cool stuff.
We’ve got loads of ceiling drapes and wall coverings. Bundles and bundles of it. Ivory; then pink-white striped, green-white striped and gold-white striped. Dresses up a marquee proper smart. The ivory is the most popular.

A selection of colourful, yet not gaudy, festival flags on 8ft poles. Flags are 3-4ft wide. We’re getting a load of new ones made for 2026.
We have colourful bunting and some other more pastel-coloured bunting – lots and lots of it.

We have a sister company called Pengelly’s Cornish Bar with a selection of bars and bar equipment, with a number of hiring and stock options.
We’ve got five styles of bar, bottle fridges, ice machine, optic racks, beer pumps and coolers, glasses, cocktail equipment, bar towels, etc. Email jo@mobilebarcornwall.co.uk for info on prices and availability.

Coats on chairs get trampled on and are a trip hazard. A heavy duty clothes rail by the marquee entrance is so much more civilised. Comes with 50, or so, coat hangers.

Had a few pints and fancy ‘aving a go? This competition full spec tug-of-war rope will sort out the three-pot squealers from the men.

Our marquees are fireproofed, but other items at your event might not be. We have sets of foam and powder fire exinguishers.

We have a 3kw blow heater and a pair of infra-red glow heaters – ideal for warming up large spaces.

Nothing like a bit of beer pong to break the ice. This is the Rools Royce of beer pong tables that lights up and even has a built-in ice box to keep those drings cool.

We picked up Missy from an Australian seamstress who had her flown over from Brisbane; you can tell from her accent. Anyway, Missy likes to hang out by bars and event entrances.

Now this is something behold, possibly the best brazier you’ll ever see – and certainly the most famous. This beauty is just over a metre across and 85cm tall and has been in Game of Thrones: House of the Dragon as well as the Gwenno video Tesor.
We’ve also got a smaller firepit that’s around 50cm across and 30cm high.
We’ve got another firepit as well, a proper beauty. It’s shaped like a teardrop and it about 3ft high – we’ll get it lit up in the winter and get some pictures.

Old sweet cart on steel wheels, with candy cart bunting and comes with a load of sweet jars – perfect for getting the children totally restless.

This is a lovely hand-made pine wedding arch that stands at over 6ft tall. Makes a great backdrop for an outdoor ceremony.
A stack of old suitcases, one cut to act as a letterbox for wedding post that look great for a shabby chic-style wedding.

Ideal for keeping warring families at bay, or to go in front a stage or in a car park.

We’ve got loads of white camo netting from a rave we put on once, along with a load of UV lights.

A large, sturdy easel to display seating arrangements or other information that on-one will pay attention to on your special day. Apologies for the rubbish picture.

Make an entrance with these ten poles and four-ropes-side set-up.

These look great in trees or scattered around the garden. We have 38 of these

Lovely, classic wine cooler buckets. We have 29 of these.
Label those tables so people know where they’re sitting. We have 44 of these.

We’ve got three of these shiney galvanised waste bins that look so much nicer that the black pastic ones.

Get that Cornish flag flying with this super tall flagpole and sturdy base.

Sometimes, at weddings, a lot of wine and champagne gets drunk and moving all those empty bottles can be troublesome. That’s where these bottle skips on wheels come in handy.

These are great for filling with ice and dropped a load of bottled beer in. We have ten of these. That will hold a lot of beer.

Smoking, filthy habit yet some still do. We have ten of these galvinised buckets with sand to put those fag buts in. Note: these buckets are not for vomiting in.
Let’s fire up the barbie. This is a large, stainless steel barbecue that’s 46″ long and 26″ wide – plenty to room to get loads of food on the go. We’ll even provide the barbie utensils. You’ll need to provide the charcoal.
Traditional 15ft square tent, carpets, festoon lighting, catering light, 16 amp extension lead, four 6ft trestle tables
